Jewelry Shoot

A few weeks ago I did a jewelry shoot - what an experience! The jewelry was beautiful - the artist is Arlee Kasselman (http://www.arleekasselman.com), based out of Scottsdale. Victoria Kroll, a makeup artist I've worked with a few times before, approached me with this project. It was great to work with her again! I'm so glad she thought of me for this shoot.

I just found out that I have received a Bride's Choice Award through Weddingwire! Thanks to the couples who voted for me :).

If you haven't been to weddingwire.com you should definitely check it out. It's a site where you can find wedding vendors but what's even better is you can read reviews from other couples! I haven't been on the site for long, so if you're a past client and haven't reviewed my services yet I'd greatly appreciate any candid feedback you'd like to provide. Just think of how much your feedback on me and other vendors would help the brides currently planning their own weddings.

Carrie and Paul were married on January 31st at St. Agnes Parish in Phoenix. Their reception was at the lovely Valley Field and Polo Club in Scottsdale - a very cute venue tucked into the desert near Papago Park.

Lisa - Dublin, Ireland

As you may know (especially if you've read some of my older blog posts) I spent some time in Ireland and France over the holidays. While I was there I spent most of my time shooting landscapes, since Ireland is known for its beautiful scenery. Being the portrait photographer that I am, this was difficult for me - there's something so rewarding about working with people. I did 3 shoots while I was abroad, one of which was with the lovely Lisa. Here are a few of my favorites (more from the other shoots to come, maybe a few landscapes too) -

I just wanted to post a quick message to say Happy Holidays! It's been a busy, wonderful year for me overall and I hope its been the same for you too.

FYI - I'll be leaving for Ireland tomorrow and may be slower than normal to return emails and calls. I've got a few shoots planned in Dublin, I'll post images from those shoots and the rest of my travels as soon as I can.

Rebecca and Ryan's Engagement Session

This afternoon I had the pleasure of photographing Rebecca and Ryan. They are high school sweethearts and were a lot of fun :). They're getting married in July in Chandler.

We were at a park in Chandler, believe it or not. I know it's hard to tell from the pictures - it was rainy all day but the rain let up just long enough for our shoot.

Trash the Dress

Eva had a great idea for a way to trash her dress - CUPCAKES!! She was so fun to photograph :). She had too much fun rolling around in the mess she made. She not only trashed her dress, but 36 innocent cupcakes (okay, so we ate a couple of them beforehand...).

I made a trip down to Tucson to photograph Eva and Jesse. I hadn't really spent any time in Tucson prior to this trip, and I was amazed by how beautiful it was!

I shot a lot on these stairs...

Jesse has the most amazing eyes! Such a rare color.

I had a great time with Eva and Jesse, and we got some really fun shots. Tucson was such a perfect setting :).

I just thought I would post a quick thanks to Karen Pokrandt and the wonderful students at Dobson High School for inviting me to be a part of their spring art show. I got to judge the student work for the photography category, and it was a tough job! There are some amazingly talented students at Dobson, I was very impressed with the work I saw. I can't wait to see the spring show!

Arizona Weddings Magazine and the Bridal Fashion Debut

Pin-up/retro fashion shoot

I had some ideas for shots I've always wanted but have never really gotten, so I put together a fashion shoot with a lovely model, Kristie Maclean (you can find her on model mayhem or email me and I'll get you her contact info if you'd like to work with her too!!) and a talented makeup artist, Victoria Kroll (again, contact me for her inf0). Here are some of my favorites - it was SOOO hard to choose images to post, I love so many of them!!

Vicki did an awesome job on the makeup - look at that color! The "tears" are actually glycerin, I've always wanted to play around with that.

This one doesn't really need a caption I suppose, I just love it!

Kristie is working on a pin-up portfolio, so we did some fun shots in the studio.

I love Kristie's look, and I just had to incorporate the scooter somehow. I think it's almost perfect, if only it were a Vespa...

She's just gorgeous! Don't you love the hair? Vicki did that too :)

Tim's starting school!

This is Tim. He graduated from high school last year and I took his senior portraits. At that time he wasn't sure if or where he would be going on to college, but since then he has decided to attend UTI in Avondale. We did a mini shoot to get some portraits of him in his new uniform - he's so proud, and I'm so excited for him!!

Okay, so I'm not really doing so well at keeping up with this blog after all. I just need to make it a habit somehow.

Anyway, I've been traveling and shooting and having a wonderful time in the sun. Phoenix is even nicer when it starts getting cooler - who knew :)?

I recently shot Carrie and Paul's engagement photos at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. They are such a cute couple! We had a lot of fun playing around with the beautiful settings the garden provided. Here are a few of my favorites:

New gear, meetings, website updates, and other fun stuff...

So, I bought some new studio strobes and I've been playing around with them - love getting new toys! I'll post some of my playing-with-new-toys images soon :).

Being new to AZ, I decided to attend a local AZPPA meeting (Arizona Professional Photographer's Association) and I learned some great info! I also met Melinda Kolker from byMelinda Design and Images, a very nice gal! And a graphic designer too!

You may have noticed that I've also changed the look of my website just a bit, I was trying to lighten things up a bit. Let me know if you have any comments about it - I appreciate the feedback.

Lastly, and probably most exciting, my trip to photograph the people and country of Ireland is ALMOST finalized! I'll be there over New Year's and I'm so excited to photograph the people and famous countryside. I'm sure I'll post a ton of my images online, so stay tuned!

First blog!!

Well, here it is! My very first Shelly Love Photography blog!

I've read the blogs of many other photographers, but I hadn't really considered creating one myself until yesterday. I guess I'm a little behind on this trend, huh?

I was at the East Valley Bridal Affair yesterday at the Windemere Hotel and Conference Center in Mesa, AZ. I met several lovely couples, and I gave away some prizes - a wedding photography package went to Carrie MacCarthy (to be wed on 1/31) and a $20 Target giftcard went to Jessica Richards. Congrats to you both! There were many wonderful vendors at the event giving away tons of prizes, and the Windemere was a very nice venue for the event.

The lovely Holli from Kensington Makeup Artists (www.kensingtonmakeup.com) was one of the vendors I met at the show - she's actually the one who encouraged me to start a blog. Thanks Holli :)!

I also met a rep for Images at San Marcos and Steve Feld of Fast Frame in Mesa. Being new to the Phoenix area it was nice to meet other wedding vendors.

I'll try to keep this updated as much as possible. Thanks for checking out my very first blog!!
